Serving the community since 1970
Well, another year is behind us and a new one has begun! As I’ve been following the Daylight Savings Time debate, it occurred to me that our government may be able to put an end to that event, but they certainly can’t stop time altogether!
When our kids were quite young, a good friend said, “The days may go by slowly, but the years go by quickly.” Wow, how true that statement has turned out to be! Whether we’re in the middle of raising a young family or perhaps wondering how many more days our earthly life will last, time does go by. That raises a question in my mind, and perhaps yours, too: How are we using the time we do have as followers of Jesus?
In Ephesians 5:15-16, the Apostle Paul writes this:
“Be very careful, then how you live, not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”
Paul’s warning is in the context of how our lives are changed when we follow Jesus and that we’re called to live for him in all ways. We all know that it’s far too easy to fall into old patterns that can become sinful as we live in this world. We may be struggling with something right now along those lines with the thought that we have plenty of time to change, but to be honest, we don’t.
Let me encourage all of us to “live as wise people” and “make the most of every opportunity” that the Lord puts before us before it passes. I believe the Lord has great things for all of us in the coming year, so let’s live wisely and not miss out on those blessings!
Happy New Year!
