Serving the community since 1970
Sherry Peckhoon Sim, the District 5240 Governor, visited the Shafter Rotary Club on Wednesday, December 18. As part of her official duties, she meets with each club in the district. Her visit was a special occasion, allowing club members to learn about her extraordinary career serving the Rotary organization.
"She represents local, our district and international exceptionally well. For her, Rotary is love, care and family. She genuinely cares about people, which is important for a District Governor to promote. Her background demonstrates that she is dedicated for all the right reasons," Mayor Pro Tem and club member Cathy Prout said.
Sherry joined the Rotary Club of Morro Bay in 2005. She helped start the Rotary Club of Cayucos, served as the charter president, and twice as club president in 2008–2009 and 2018–2019. Since 2009, Sim has served in various capacities at club and district levels.
She is a strong supporter of The Rotary Foundation and a Master Practical Relevant Leadership Skills graduate. She has received several Governor recognitions and awards, including Rotary International's Citation for All Avenues of Service in 2014–2015, and Rotary District 5240's Samuel L. Greene Service Above Self Award in 2022–2023.
A native of Singapore, Sherry settled in California in 1988 and relocated to Cayucos in 2002. Backed by her 20 years of experience in international business and tourism marketing, Sherry owns and operates her own real estate brokerage.
Sherry loves to cook, explore and create various cuisines. Music is her passion and gives her a chance to feel free and dance. She has three "R's" in her life: Riley (her dog), real estate and Rotary.
She has embraced the Rotary family as part of her family. Sherry hopes to spread her theme, "Rotary is Love," with everyone, and that love will, in turn, be multiplied and shared to make a difference and change lives.
Blake Goehring, a member of the Shafter Rotary Club for 18 years, shared that District Governor Sim's visit was inspiring because she is a first-generation U.S. immigrant and passionate about creating a better world. "She highlighted the accomplishments of the Rotary Club of Shafter through the years and encouraged us to build a better community for Shafter. She challenges us, as Rotarians, to look for new projects that will enrich our community, and she is committed to providing the resources to help us reach our goal of spreading the love of Rotary."
