Serving the community since 1970
"The Shafter Woman's Club is proud to announce the completion of another successful year of our annual Christmas for Shafter Seniors donation drive, spreading cheer and brightening the holiday season for them," Barbara Gladden, recording secretary and event coordinator, said last week.
The campaign kicked off in October with a heartfelt call to action: to provide homebound and isolated seniors in Shafter with holiday gift bags filled with essential items. Donations were gathered for residents of Carrington, Golden Living Center (Shafter Convalescent Hospital), Shafter Senior Manor and participants in the Richland Healthy Families program.
"We had a list of desired items; we just needed 'elves' to make it happen, and the community answered in a huge way."
With the support of the people of Shafter, including employees from the Walmart Distribution Center, the drive exceeded expectations. Thanks to the overwhelming response, the club filled almost 200 gift bags. These bags contained items such as toiletries, socks, beanies, blankets and more, ensuring seniors in need felt cared for and remembered this Christmas.
"On behalf of the Shafter Woman's Club, I extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed, helping to make the holidays even more special for some of our community's most vulnerable members," Gladden said.
