Kiwanis Club honors Terrific Kids

It was a joyous occasion for local students at the monthly Shafter Kiwanis Club luncheon recently, honoring Terrific Kids for the enthusiasm they brought to the classroom and their academic endeavors. Parents and community members were in attendance to celebrate the students nominated by their teachers for demonstrating the character trait of enthusiasm. In addition to the delicious lunch enjoyed among their peers from other schools, each student received a certificate of recognition, a pencil, a bumper sticker and a t-shirt.

"With all the schools participating in the community of Shafter, it is very nice to show appreciation for the kids receiving the awards because terrific kids come from terrific parents. It is a good time to see the enthusiasm of the kids, which was the character trait for this month," Kiwanis Club President Phillip Jimenez said in recognizing the students for their outstanding job.

Sequoia Elementary Assistant Principal Tonia Aguilera presented the award to Karim Ali and Sofia Godoy. Redwood Elementary Assistant Principal Antonio Juarez presented certificates to Elias Diaz and Kamila Rosas. Golden Oak Elementary Assistant Principal Jose Montelongo awarded Valentina Mastrocinque and Alexander Perez. Richland Junior High Principal Manuel Cantu presented awards to Aliyah Reyes and Aubrey Hernandez.

Students Sheyla Rodriguez, Giana Salcido, Olivia Gonzalez and Abigail Gomez received certificates at Maple Elementary School. Grow Academy students Alexia Verduzco, Fernando Luque, Landon Rosas and Yaritzi Abella Aguero also received certificates.
