Sean Medley and his wife, Heather, now live in Idaho, where they say they are happy and enjoy spending time on the river, fishing and embracing the outdoors.
Sean Medley showcased talent as both a wrestler and football player during his time at Wasco High School.
Sean Medley, a Wasco High School alumnus of the Class of 2013, was inducted into the Wasco Union High School Athletic Hall of Fame last month, a honor following a remarkable athletic career. Sean's high school years were filled with accomplishments in both wrestling and football, where he excelled and left a lasting impact.
Originally from Los Angeles, Sean moved to Wasco after his father started working in Bakersfield quite often and he had a cousin in Wasco. Then, they met the Johnson family at a wrestling tournament. "Donnie and Christi were some of the people who got us to Wasco," Medley recalls. Having started wrestling at age 5, Sean's passion for the sport deepened when he arrived in town, and it wasn't long before he made his mark on the high school's athletic program.
Medley's wrestling career at Wasco High was nothing short of historic. He became Wasco High's first-ever State finalist in wrestling, with a record of 46-2 in his senior year. Sean's accolades include being a two-time All-American, three-time CIF Champion, Master's Sectional Champion, and four-time South Sequoia League Champion. He qualified for the State tournament multiple times, finishing fourth and second, cementing his status as one of the greatest wrestlers in Wasco High's history. Medley also was named All-Area Wrestler of the Year.
In addition to his wrestling success, Medley also was a standout on the football field. He was part of the Valley Championship-winning football team, a victory that is a proud moment in Wasco High's sports history.
Medley's journey continued at Grand Canyon University on a wrestling scholarship, where he pursued a degree in secondary education with an emphasis on physical education. Despite facing injuries in college, he never lost his passion for sports. Though his wrestling career was cut short when GCU canceled the program, Medley remains proud of his achievements and grateful for the experiences that shaped him.
Now, as Medley returns to Wasco for his Hall of Fame induction, both as an individual athlete and a member of the 2012 football team, he reflects on the honor with humility. "I don't think I am deserving. There have to be other athletes who have done more. I feel honored being inducted into my High School Hall of Fame. Wrestling is a one-man sport, just my opponent and me. But when it comes to football, it is a team sport. We wouldn't be going in without the other guys on the team. If it weren't for Joe Dominguez, Garrett Johnson, Kyle Wedel, Nick Saldana and Mando Saldana ... we would not be going in. I see it as maybe a bigger deal than me being inducted by myself."
