Tigers best Taft, 53-14, with over 500 yards rushing

The Wasco Tigers upped their SSL record to 2-1 with a rout of the Taft Wildcats, 53-14, on Friday night.

Wasco was unstoppable on offense, racking up over 500 yards on the ground for the game.

Hammie Lopez had 203 yards rushing on the night, leading the way. But, there were plenty of Tigers in support, with five other Wasco players gaining yardage on the night.

The Tigers scored early and often, with Lopez scoring two first quarter touchdowns, one of them for 43 yards. Wasco ended the game with a season-high 502 yards on the ground on offense.

The Tiger defense dominated the line of scrimmage and didn’t let the Wildcats mount any sort of comeback. The Tigers had the game in hand before the end of the first half. Wasco scored four times in the first half, racing out to a 32-0 lead before the halftime whistle blew.

Other Tiger players that contributed to the cause was Daniel Hulsey, who had 92 yards, freshman Aiden Hulsey with 83 yards and Moroni Carranza with 43 yards.

Wasco rebounded after their loss to Kennedy last week. The Tigers will look to keep the momentum when they host Delano Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
