Shafter man Joe O'Brien passed away at 67. He was known as owner of O'Brien Stables and a member of the U.S. Trotting Association Hall of Fame.

The American Youth Soccer Organization started their fifth year. 525 kids joined from Shafter, Wasco and Buttonwillow on 40 teams.

30 years ago: Oct. 5, 1994

Shafter High School drum major was Dennis Farmer. He graduated in the Class of 1995.
