Lady Generals stay perfect in volleyball

The Shafter High Lady Generals volleyball team stayed perfect in the SSL with a convincing 3-0 win over the Delano Tigers. The Tigers touted a 12-4 record coming into the game, but the Lady Generals dispatched them in straight sets.

Led by the hitting of Sydnee Macias, the team never trailed by more than one point in the match, keeping the momentum the entire game.

Aided by a boisterous crowd, the Shafter squad stayed unbeaten at home, and in first place in the South Sequoia League. But, the real star of the game for the Lady Generals was the play of Emily Pugh. Pugh was the offensive standout of the contest as she had nine digs and two aces. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in aces.

Shafter was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in three consecutive matchups.

Shafter has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their overall record of 19-3-1. Shafter's next tough test will be a match with rival Wasco at Wasco on Thursday.
