Serving the community since 1970
A run/walk event has been added to the slate of events scheduled for the annual Shafter/Wasco Rivalry Week this year.
Currently, the students have Dress-Up Days during the week, fun activities at lunch, and the traditional Exchange Breakfast and Exchange Rally at the two schools. The week culminates with the battle on the football field on Friday night. Principal Russell Shipley of Shafter High School said that this year, Shafter is holding a Tiger Chase Color Fun Run/Walk, which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, beginning at 9 a.m.
The 5K run/walk will feature participants running through colorful bursts of blue and gold along the course.
Students, staff and any Shafter community members who would like to participate are encouraged to come out for this first event of Shafter/Wasco Rivalry Week.
There will be food vendors, music, and a lot of fun had at the event, Shipley said, and he hopes this would be the start of another tradition.
Anyone interested can go the Shafter High attendance office for a registration form, or just show up at the event to root the participants on.
