Rihanna Sanchez crowned Miss Wasco Rose Queen

The 2024 Miss Wasco Rose Queen Pageant took place with great excitement at the historic Wasco High School Auditorium. Thirteen remarkable young women competed in categories including physical fitness, talent, interview, and poise and appearance. Dating back to 1969, this year's theme was Christmas. All the contestants shone brightly on stage, but Rihanna Sanchez won the coveted crown.

"It feels unreal and very exciting to be a part of this long-time tradition. I'm very thankful for my support system at home and for my directors. I'm ready to represent my town in such a positive and uplifting way."

"I am honored to be Miss Wasco Rose Queen. All the past queens have been inspiring and made a positive impact here in Wasco, and I hope to do the same. Being queen is a privilege, and I thank my Rosy Reindeers for making this journey possible."

Cedes Saldaña, the first runner-up, shared her surprise and gratitude: "When they announced my name, I was shocked. I remember looking up at my family and feeling incredibly blessed to be part of a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It was truly amazing to share this moment with such wonderful girls."

The second runner-up, Klarissa Gomez, expressed her appreciation: "I feel honored and blessed. I couldn't have done it without my family. They have been supportive throughout the whole journey."

Contestant Daisy Asensio, reflected on her unforgettable experience: "I was a little nervous, but I knew I had my girls by my side. I couldn't wait for everybody to see it."

Briana Gonzalez enjoyed performing the physical fitness dance: "It was called 'Rocking Around.' I loved the energy of the dance and the incorporation of the escorts. I also appreciated the directors for putting in so much effort. I know it wasn't easy."

Amalia Cantu, who came to see her granddaughter as a contestant and her grandson as an escort, shared her long-standing affection for the pageant: "Even if I didn't know anyone, I would still come because it's the best event in town. I like to see all the girls. They work so hard. All of them deserve the crown."

Crissenda Melendrez attended to support her daughter Ava: "She did an amazing job, and it paid off tonight. She gave it her all. And seeing her smile from ear to ear and doing what she loves to do was my favorite."

The Melendrez family made it a special occasion, with relatives traveling from as far as Los Angeles and Orange County to see Ava perform: "Seeing us together as a whole shows her that she always has our support, and we will be there to support her with all her endeavors in life."

Pageant Director Hailey Coyle praised the event's success: "We're so proud of all the contestants. We also want to thank the many volunteers who helped us put it on and the community for the pageant's success. It couldn't have happened without them. It was a packed house, and the support for the girls was just great – that's what we do it for."
