The Wasco High Tigers rebounded from their season-opening loss to Porterville by beating the Wolfpack of Ridgeview on Friday night, 22-14. Chad Martinez's squad had a balanced performance by the offense and defense, each helping the other in many instances throughout the game.
The Tigers took an 8-0 lead in the first quarter when Hami Lopez scored the first of his three touchdowns of the game, putting the Tigers up 8-0 after the two-point conversion. Lopez found the end zone from 11 yards out, after burning the Wolfpack for a 49-yard gain that got the Tigers into the redzone.
Ridgeview answered late in the first half, narrowing the lead to 8-7 at halftime.
The Tigers came out strong in the second half, with quarterback Miguel Gomez mixing a powerful running game with a few passes to keep the Wolfpack off balance.
Lopez did most of the heavy lifting on Friday night though, accounting for three touchdowns and almost 200 yards rushing.
The Tigers defense limited the speedy Wolfpack to just one score in the second half, giving the Tigers offense a chance to put the game away late in the game.
Wasco will try to keep the momentum going this Friday night when they travel to Morro Bay to take on the Pirates, a Central Coast squad. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. for the junior varsity game, and the varsity will kick off at 7:15 p.m.
