Explore Wasco history at museum open house

On Saturday, Sep. 7, the Wasco Rose Festival will host a variety of activities, and one of the highlights will be an open house at the Wasco Historical Museum. This event offers an opportunity to explore the town's rich history and connect with the community.

Marlene Swan, Wasco resident and museum director since the 1980s, is eager to welcome visitors. Swan invites everyone to immerse themselves in the museum's collections and share in the stories of Wasco's past.

"I'd love those who visit the museum to ask questions and look through the many albums of pictures, stories and info," Swan said "We do have chairs to sit on. You can sit on an old congregational church pew and watch videos of Huell Howser's visit to Wasco, Hoyettes and the rose fields. Danny Espitia was mayor. There are other disks of interviews of people who were born, raised and have died here. Take time with us and come back for more. If you're interested in history, Wasco has a great one."

The museum's open house will feature a mix of historical relics, both inside and outside the museum. One of the day's featured attractions will be a new display showcasing local Wasco heroes who served in the jungles of New Guinea during World War II. This exhibit promises to offer a poignant glimpse into the lives of these courageous individuals and their contributions to history.

The museum is located at 918 6th St. and will be open from 11 a.m. to 1. p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7. Admission is free.
