Belton Banks, who has spent over 30 years serving the community of Shafter, has announced that he will be retiring from the District 1 Cemetery Board at the end of his current term. Banks has served on the board for the last eight years.
In addition to the cemetery board, Banks has served on numerous boards and committees, as well as being involved in several clubs and organizations.
Belton Banks was raised in Shafter. He had a 32-year career in elementary and secondary education in Shafter teaching math and history, and as an administrator. Belton has spent years as a football, basketball, golf and diving coach. He has continued to in public service years after his retirement with his wife, Brenda.
Banks recently received proclamations from local politicians, including from Assemblymember Jasmeet Bains, who presented him with a State Assembly Certificate for his service.
Cemetery Director Eliza Caudillo highlighted his contributions. "Belton was an exceptional trustee, and his forte was his mathematical mind, love of his community and his desire to serve the Shafter-Wasco residents by always keeping in mind his stewardship as a trustee."
