Serving the community since 1970
It's summertime again, and that means the Shafter Children's Summer Theater program is putting on another production at the Shafter Ford Theater. For this year's musical, love is certainly in the air, as they have been working on Roger and Hammerstein's "Cinderella."
The "Cinderella" cast is sure to both tug on your heart strings and have you folding over with laughter. They have been working tirelessly since April, and they are finally ready to present it. Although "Cinderella" is a story that everyone knows and loves, what truly makes their production so special is the actors. The kind-hearted Cinderella is played by Rori Acres, while her dear Prince is played by Caleb Toews. And let's not forget Cinderella's cruel stepmother, played by Izabella Rodriguez, and her vile stepsisters, Joy and Portia, played by Emma Gonzalez and Mckenna Castillo.
Then there's SCST's Rising Stars. They are putting on their own production called "The Littles," and it's all about the critters who assist the fairy godmother in getting Cinderella to the ball.
The Shafter Children's Summer Theater was started over 20 years ago by Cris Starrh, who decided that she wanted to do something that would give her kids something to do in the summer. This has grown into one of the most popular events of the year in the community. In addition to the theater group, the Rising Stars was formed, giving those little ones a chance to get their feet wet on stage.
Based on their prior productions, the SCST and Rising Stars will put on a magical evening enjoyable for everybody. Their show days are Friday and Saturday, July 26 and 27, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, July 28, at 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at shafterfordtheater.com. The show is being put on at the Shafter Ford Theater 1101 E. Lerdo Hwy.
