Year's sentence in human remains case

A Wasco man was sentenced to a year in prison after pleading no contest to several charges in the Superior Court of Kern County. Tellez was charged with felonies, including two counts of removal of human remains from other than a cemetery, destroying/concealing evidence, and resisting a peace officer.

Resendo Tellez, 27, was additionally charged in Shafter Municipal Court with possessing drug paraphernalia, but the case was continued until the outcome of this hearing was known.

On March 22. a pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Wasco. The victim's leg was severed, and, according to eyewitness accounts and video at the scene, Tellez removed the leg from the scene and began eating it, the video showed.

Once Kern County Sheriff's deputies arrived, Tellez, walked away from them, waving the leg at them and yelling. Tellez was eventually arrested.

Tellez was given credit for 84 days served with 42 of them as good behavior.
