3 dead after vehicle hits train off Kimberlina

A vehicle collided with a freight train on Sunday night, resulting in three fatalities. Mckinley Jordan Toliver, 19, was the driver, according to a CHP report..

According to a report from the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 3:03 a.m. Bakersfield CHP area units responded to Kimberlina Road east of State Route 43 for a crash involving a vehicle versus train.

The report stated that Toliver was traveling in a Honda westbound on Kimberlina Road, east of SR-43, toward the railroad tracks/train at an undetermined rate of speed. The train was traveling northbound on the tracks ahead of the Honda. For reasons still under investigation, Toliver struck the railroad crossing arm, then struck the train. As a result of this impact, the Honda rolled over and traveled out of control in a northerly direction.

The names of the two deceased passengers were being withheld subject to identification by by the Kern County Coroner's Office.

The use of alcohol and/or drugs as a factor in the crash is part of the ongoing investigation. Witnesses with information are encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol, Bakersfield area.
