Charlotte Belle German

Charlotte Belle German, age 92, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, in Camarillo. She was born in November 1931, in Lancaster, to Wm. Walter Homes, Jr. and A. Marie Kornelissen.

She was a graduate of Antelope Valley Joint Union High School and also attended Antelope Valley Junior College. Many years later she earned an A.A. in early childhood development from Ventura Junior College, in Ventura.

She married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth German, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lancaster on Dec. 31, 1950. She was a loving mother and homemaker, raising five children, and happily married until her husband's death in 2020. She was infinitely generous, always thinking of others before herself and faithfully serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in word and deed.

Charlotte was an accomplished musician. She sang, played piano and the trumpet. She marched in the Rose Parade in 1949 in the Antelope Valley High School band. She also served as the organist, and often the choir director, at St. Paul's Episcopal in Lancaster,, St. John's Episcopal, Clayton Valley in Concord, St. David's Episcopal in Pittsburg, St. Andrew's Episcopal in Ojai and St. Mark's Episcopal in Shafter. She'll always be remembered for her beautiful voice, particularly as she often sang along with what she was playing during a service.

She worked for many years at and retired from Ventura County Child Development Resources (Head Start) as director of transportation. She was a Past Worthy Advisor of Rainbow Girls, Lancaster, and lifetime member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of Daughters of the King, a lay order of women in the Episcopal Church devoted to prayer, service and evangelism.

Charlotte is survived by her children, Christopher German, Katherine Burrelsman (Karl), Thomas German (Kathleen), Dennis German (Elsie) and Jennifer Wright; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and her sister Debra Holmes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth German; her parents, Wm. and Marie Holmes, Jr.; her sister Helen Mattarocci; and her brother, Wm. Theodore Holmes.

She will be interred at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Ojai, at a later date. Gifts or remembrances may be sent to St. Andrew's, Ojai, Calif., or Gideons International.
