Shafter police officers made an arrest on Thursday morning, at approximately 4 a.m., when they found weapons, ammo and drugs in a vehicle in the 100 block of West Orange Avenue in Shafter.
According to the SPD's Joshua Stephens, officers were patrolling in the area and began talking with three individuals inside a car parked on the street.
Stephens said that one of the individuals, later identified as 35-year-old Victor Ordaz, of Wasco, was found to have an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. During the conversation, officers found a "billy club" type weapon in the vehicle, and an open container of alcohol. While taking Ordaz into custody, a loaded 9mm gun with a high-capacity magazine was found in his jacket. The arresting officers said that another search of Ordaz's vehicle revealed a small amount of cocaine.
Ordaz was arrested for possession of a loaded gun in a vehicle, carrying a loaded gun when not the registered owner, possession of a high-capacity magazine, and being in possession of a loaded gun while in possession of a controlled substance.
Stephens said that a passenger in the vehicle, 24-year-old Christopher Rojas, was arrested for an outstanding warrant from Tulare County.
Both men were booked into the Justice Receiving Facility, with Ordaz's bail being set at $52,500.
