Martha Peters went to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb. 7, 2024, in Shafter. Martha was born June 22, 1933, in Hillsboro, Kan., to Frank and Sarah (Zielke) Penner, the 11th of 13 children.
The family moved to Dinuba in 1943, and Martha attended Immanuel High School and met her future husband, Clarence W. Peters. They married Aug. 17, 1951, and in November moved to Ukiah to begin Clarence's alternative service, both working at Mendocino State Hospital.
Career changes took them from farming to Porterville State Hospital to funeral service. They bought Agee Family Funeral Home in 1973 and worked side by side until their retirement in 1994. They enjoyed traveling together for many years.
Martha was a talented crafter but excelled in embroidery and gift wrapping. She was a member of the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church, where she and Clarence served as deacons and youth leaders.
Martha was preceded in death by her son, Loren Peters, parents and 11 siblings. Martha is survived by her husband of 72 years, Clarence Peters; children Carolyn Peters, Cheryl and husband Rick Woody, Les Peters and wife Kim, Frank Peters and wife Cindy; grandchildren Roxanne Cusick, Rick Woody and wife Ruby, Daniel Vierra, Toni and husband Peter Frantz, Matt Peters and wife Jenna, Allison Peters, Nikki and husband Rob Smee, Zackaria Peters and wife Katie, Megan and husband Dallas Pruitt, Jared Peters and wife Taylor; great grandchildren Georgia, Ricky and Romeo Woody, Kate and Tess Frantz, Abigail and Oliver Pruitt, Sydney and Claire Peters, Cadence and Brodie Peters, and Bryson Smee; sister Evelyn Wall; sister-in-law Margaret Penner; and a host of other family members.
Visitation for Martha will be held at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter, Thursday, Feb. 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church, 400 Kern St., on Friday, Feb. 16, beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be private at Shafter Memorial Park. Donations may be made to Shafter MB Church to be used for youth camp scholarships.
