The Shafter High School Drama Department is bringing the Broadway smash "The Addams Family" to the Fred Starrh Performing Arts Center on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 12,13. After the success of last year's production of "Mama Mia!," the troupe, led by Advisor Hal Friedman, will be bringing the characters in the Addams family to life.
The musical finds the quirky family meeting the parents of Wednesday's new love, Lucas. As the families meet, chaos ensues and the fun begins.
The Shafter High cast is full of stage veterans, including Emily McGuire, who wowed everyone as Janet Vandegraff in "The Drowsy Chaperone." This time, McGuire is playing Morticia Addams. Portraying Gomez Addams is Andrew Magana, while the role of Wednesday Addams went to Aurelia Scialabba. Playing Uncle Fester will be Gustavo Pardo, and Pugsley is being played by Hayden Martinez. Alice Beineke, Lucas' mother, is being played by Jocelyn Pierucci. Pierucci is one of the cast members who already have several years of theater experience.
"I started theater in the fourth grade. My mom signed me up for the Shafter Summer Children's Theater, and I fell in love with it," Pierucci said.
McGuire, who also began performing in grade school, said that just loves the theater. "I can be a totally different character, losing myself in the production of a play." she said.
The curtain is set to go up at 7 p.m. for the two-night performance.
