Elks to host a series of fun events

The Wasco Elks Lodge has an exciting lineup of events, including a golf tournament and a car show for the community to enjoy.

The golf tournament will occur on Saturday, July 8, at the North Kern County Golf Course in Shafter. Registration starts at 6 a.m., with a shotgun start at 7 a.m.

Prizes will be given for the closest to the hole and the longest drive. The price is $500 per team of four and comes with a cart, lunch, greens fee and awards for first and second place.

The tournament is for all skill levels, and the registration deadline is Tuesday, June 30.

The Wasco Elks Lodge Blaine Willard Memorial Car Show is on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The categories are open class, under construction and motorcycle. Pre-entry fee is $25.

DJ BoomDog will provide music, in addition to a beer garden, bloody mary bar, food, craft vendors, silent auction and raffles.

There also will be a cornhole tournament sponsored by the Orange Heart Foundation.

The event will be held at the Wasco Elks Lodge and will honor Blaine Willard, a long-time devoted member of the lodge.

"He was a member of good standing. If we needed something, he was always there to help us. He was always so supportive of our car show," Trustee Jerry Bozarth said.

Leading Knight Sergio Garza said the lodge extends a warm invitation to the communities of Kern County.

"We are hoping to get more people involved in both events. The more participation we generate, the more we can help the community."

Money raised will be used to support youth activities and veterans.

"Come out for a fun time while helping us to make Wasco a better place for everyone."
