Woman's Club to host community tea

The Wasco Woman’s Club is hosting its first annual Spring Tea event on Saturday, April 29. It will be an afternoon of fellowship and socializing with the club and community members.

There will be elegant decor, with tables decorated with fine china and flowers. A variety of finger sandwiches and desserts will be served. Entertainment and an area for pictures also will be provided.

Guest are encouraged to wear their Sunday best, and hats in the style of English high society, which are often used for weddings or special events, are optional.

With your ticket, you could win a door prize. There also will be opportunity baskets.

A group of five club women is working hard to make the event memorable for all those that attend. There are currently about 40 members of the club, and each member will contribute to ensure the event is a success.

Chris Gibson, the committee chair, said, “This is the first time we’ve done this event, and we hope to continue to have it. It will be something different for the community and a chance to learn more about the club.”

“It is a new and exciting event that we’ve not seen in Wasco before, and we just hope it turns out fabulous,” Gibson said.

The Wasco Woman’s Club is a service organization that will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year. The club supports many charitable efforts, including providing scholarships, sponsoring a Miss Wasco Rose Queen, hosting a high school art show, and putting on a Christmas party and prom for special education youth, to name a few.

The meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at noon at the Club at 1601 7th St.

“It is open to everyone,” Gibson said. She has been a member since 2016 and enjoys the camaraderie.

“I‘ve met many people I hadn’t known before. I like the fact that we are a service to the community and help support many initiatives to improve the quality of life for the residents of Wasco.”

Pat Ketcherside is also a member and has served as club president twice.

“We welcome all younger or older ladies. At our meetings, we have lunch and a program and then we do all of our philanthropic activities.”

Ketcherside said that what she loves most about the club is its voice in the community.

The Spring Tea is another example of the club’s goal to connect with Wasco locals.

“We would love to have everyone come out for a fun day and support the Woman’s Club and our community.”

The event will be held at Grace Community Church at 1544 7th St., from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased from any club member, or call Chris Gibson at 661-319-7435.
