Robert Edward Clancy

Robert E. Clancy, 85, of Bakersfield, entered into the arms of God in Heaven on Feb. 22, 2023. He was born in Burlingame, to Robert and Mary Clancy on Sept. 16, 1937. His childhood was spent in Northern California, as well as in Bahrain, while his father worked for Standard Oil. His childhood was spent alongside his sister and brother, Susan and Charlie.

Bob was an excellent golfer as a teenager at San Mateo High School, which gave him an opportunity upon graduation to play the sport and continue his education at the College of San Mateo. After a year, he chose to pause his education and serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1962. During this time, Bobby was also a member of the Navy's golf team, and he traveled extensively to participate in invitational tournaments. He received an honorable discharge as a petty officer second class.

Bob then returned to his education, attending UC Santa Barbara, where he played golf for the Gauchos and eventually earned a place in their sports Hall of Fame for his career on the links. He graduated with his bachelor of arts in sociology and met his future wife, Carolyn Campbell. The two were married in Bakersfield on July 24, 1965.

After jobs at Sears and Signal Oil Refinery in Bakersfield, Robert began his legendary teaching career at Maple School in Shafter in 1968. He dedicated the next 35 years of his teaching career to the students at Maple School as their lone 8th grade teacher until he retired in 2002, having endeared himself to hundreds of junior high school students and their families where he is still remembered to this day. His time spent teaching, mentoring and coaching junior high students was a source of inspiration to those who knew and loved him.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Clancy, daughter Dana (Clancy) Hamilton and husband Kevin Hamilton, daughter Teresa (Clancy) Tudor and husband Dan Tudor, son Scott Clancy and wife Irene (Pena) Clancy, daughter Erin (Clancy) Vradenburg and husband Mike Vradenburg, as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are welcome to attend his service, which will pay tribute to Bobby's service to his country with full military honors at the Bakersfield National Cemetery at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, followed by a luncheon at Luigi's Italian Restaurant in Bakersfield.

Bobby will forever be remembered and cherished by his family and friends, who will continue to live out the life lessons he taught us all, as he rejoices with the Lord for eternity in this next chapter of his life in Heaven.
