Serving the community since 1970
Canyon Hills Church of Wasco will hold a special Easter service at the Wasco High School auditorium on Sunday, April 9, at 10 a.m. It will be a morning of celebration and worship.
Fern Segura is the pastor who will be leading the service. He has been a pastor of the church for eight years. He said what he loves most about being a pastor is his relationships with the community.
The philosophy of the church is to inspire and equip people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
"We do that through intimacy with God and community with other believers and an influence in our world. We believe in being able to help people be more like Jesus and the way that they live their lives."
Segura said Canyon Hills is a church that preaches the bible based on sound doctrine.
"Our teachings are accurate and precise, not based on idealogy but the real biblical message."
Of the Easter service, he said, "Every year on Easter Sunday, we have a gathering at our church. This year we set out to have church in the auditorium to make more space for a larger crowd."
He is expecting 300 people to attend. It will be the first time their Easter service has been in the auditorium.
"It's been a long time since a service was held at the auditorium."
There will be spiritual worship, music, preaching and an inspirational celebration of the resurrection of Christ.
"It will be a beautiful time in community with other believers. The best part will definitely be that the people will give their life to Jesus that day and respond to salvation."
For the children, there will be a program with games and crafts followed by an Easter egg hunt. They will also hear the message of the resurrection.
"We do this for the kids to walk away with some candy and have fun. We wanted to give them the opportunity to do this at church."
The church was founded in 2015 and is located in a building built in 1923. The address is 600 Broadway St. Sunday service takes place at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
