The Wasco Recreation and Parks District will present their 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow Color Blast Fun Run' on Saturday, September 10th. It promises to be a great experience for the whole family.
There will be a 5K fun run and a 3K walk. This event is open to first-time participants or seasoned athletes.
The event will start at 7:30 a.m. at Barker Park and will kick off the Wasco Rose Festival celebration.
"We are excited to be a part of that," said WRPD District Manager Chris Serna. "Life has many colors, and it is a fun way to start with an early event."
Participants will be sprayed from head to toe in different color powders. They will wear white at the starting line and finish the race with a rainbow of colors.
It is a friendly race that involves no competition, and one can go at their own pace. The event is aligned with the WRPD mission to improve the quality of life for Wasco residents with special events and programs that promote good fitness.
This is something the WRPD wants to do annually.
"This is the first annual Color Blast Fun Run that the WRPD is doing in conjunction with the festival."
"It is not about having winners or keeping official time. It is centered around everyone having a good time and organized for kids and adults of all ages," said Serna.
It is open to everyone, and moms can bring their little ones. One can exercise or just come out to show their support.
"The purpose is to join friends, make new ones and socialize while at the same time getting your walking or running out of the way in the morning," said Serna.
The theme of this year's Rose Festival is the Wizard of Oz and WRPD went with the event's name to go along with that.
The Color Blast Fun Run is just one of many events the WRPD holds throughout the year. They are now busy planning for the upcoming 'Trunk or Treat' event in October.
Also in the works is an art event with local artists in November.
"There are many more great events coming your way," said Serna.
Serna invites the community to participate in the Color Blast Fun Run.
"Come one, come all. Join us for a morning of charity and a fun and colorful time."
The entry fee is $30, and all proceeds raised will go to the WRPD's annual fireworks show. To register online, go to wascoparks.recdesk.com or in person at the office at 1280 Poplar Avenue.
Registration on the day of the event will be at 7:00 a.m.
