NEW: Waste collection – Saturday, Aug. 13, Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event at 17621 Scofield Ave., 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Accepted materials include batteries, motor oil, paints, light bulbs, pool chemicals, automotive products and more.

Wasco Branch Library, 1102 7th St., Monday and Tuesday 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Lost Hills: Wonderful College Prep Academy, 14848 Lamberson Ave. Meals will be served Monday-Friday, 7-10:30 a.m. and lunch 10 a.m.-12:35 p.m.

Buttonwillow: Buttonwillow Recreation Center, 556 Milo Ave. Meals served Monday-Friday 11-11:45 a.m.

Cooling Center in Shafter at the Walker Senior Center on 505 Sunset Ave. Opens 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Questions call Kern County Aging & Adult Services (800) 510-2020.

City of Wasco invites young people to lead the flag salute at the start of City Council meetings. You pic the date, and we sign you up. Leaders must be age 5-10 and know the Pledge of Allegiance. If you and your child are interested in participating please contact Wasco City Hall at (661) 758-7215.

MONDAY

Richland School Board – Meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 6 p.m. at Golden Oak Cafeteria, 195 S. Wall St.

Shafter City Council – Meetings are held at City Hall on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.

TUESDAY

Shafter Library & Learning Center – Com and join in our beginning computer skills class 2-4 p.m.

Wasco Woman’s Club – Meetings are at the Clubhouse, 1601 7th St., on the second Tuesday of the month. There is a $15fee for the lunch meetings.

Senior Lunch Program – Every first and third Tuesday of the month: Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St. Sack lunches for seniors will be given out at 11 a.m. Sponsored by Golden Gleaners.

WEDNESDAY

Shafter Library & Learning Center: Come and join in Storytime, 9-10 a.m.

Shafter Rotary – Meeting at 7 a.m. at the Shafter Veterans Hall.

Shafter Kiwanis – Meeting Wednesdays at 12 p.m. at the Shafter Veterans Hall.

THURSDAY

Shafter Library & Learning Center: Come and join in board games 3-5 p.m. Register beforehand.

Wasco High School Board – Meetings the second Thursday of the month at 1900 7th St. in Room 202, or alternatively in Library Room 1101. The agenda is on the WHS website.

Wasco Recreation and Park Board – Meetings are on the third Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Hall at Barker Park.

Food distribution – Shafter Recreation and the Gleaners have food distribution every first and third Thursday of each month at the W.C. Walker Senior Center, 505 Sunset Ave.

FRIDAY

Shafter Library & Learning Center – Come and join in some Lego time (the library providesall legos) 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Food giveaway — The Impact Program is a weekly food giveaway provided to anyone in need, Fridays beginning at 7 a.m. first come, first serve. Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St., Wasco.

SATURDAY

Depot Museum – The Shafter Depot Museum is open Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum is at 150 Central Valley Highway.
