The Wasco Tigers varsity baseball team enters interleague play with a huge win against the McFarland Cougars.
Shutting them out 19-0, the Tigers now have an 8-2 overall record, and a 1-0 league record for the season, leaving the Cougars with 3-10 overall and 0-3 interleague, continuing McFarland’s losing streak.
So far this season, the Wasco Tigers have reigned victorious over the Morro Bay Pirates, Corcoran Panthers, Exeter Monarchs, Independence Falcons, Chavez Titans, Golden Valley Bulldogs, North Stars, and now, the McFarland Cougars.
The Tigers faced the Thunderbirds from RFK High School of Delano on Tuesday, March 29. The Thunderbirds record was 5-4 overall, with a .52 win percentage. In terms of league play, the Thunderbirds go 0-2.
Softball had just as great of a start into interleague play as baseball, also beating McFarland in a landslide 18-1 game. Going forward into the season, they have a 10-3 overall record and continuing their seven game win streak. Their streak includes wins over the Dos Palos Broncos, Riverdale Cowboys, Golden Valley Bulldogs, Mira Monte Lions, Ridgeview Wolf Pack, Barstow Aztecs, and now the McFarland Cougars.
The Lady Tigers also faced the Thunderbirds on Tuesday, March 29. The Thunderbirds are coming off of a loss against Taft, being shut out 29-0, continuing their 5 game losing streak and leaving them with a 1-9 overall record and 0-2 league record. The odds seem heavily stacked in the Tiger’s favor but in the words of Sonia Wedel, Softball Head Coach at Wasco High, “...Softball has expanded quite a bit in the last 10 years and overall high school teams are stronger and the competition is tougher. We can't take any team or game lightly.”
