The Shafter Kiwanis Club held their monthly Terrific Kids luncheon recently, recognizing some outstanding students from the local Richland School District.
The Terrific Kids program honors those students who best display the trait that is designated for that particular month. This last month the trait was "friendly."
For Golden Oak Elementary School, the honorees were Nathaniel Villavicencio, Juan Rodriguez Mendoza, Aubrey Hernandez and Emily Hernandez. They were presented their awards by Assistant Principal Jose Montelongo. Each student recognized for the Terrific Kids program receives pencils, a t-shirt, bumper sticker, and a certificate.
The Golden Oak Tigers were honored for their willingness to reach out to other students and to show their friendliness to their fellow students.
Assistant Principal Antonio Juarez from Redwood Elementary School presented awards to Estrella Pena and Christopher Atala. Those two students were recognized for their display of friendliness to every student in their classes.
Representing Sequoia Elementary School, Assistant Principal Tonia Aguilera and Principal Janean Johnson gave awards to Jonathan Olvera and Sophia De Leon. Those students are willing to show friendship to all students, having a kind word and a smile for everyone.
For Richland Junior High School, Principal Monica Garza presented awards to Anthony Soto and Valerie Garibay. All of the students honored have traits recognized for outstanding performance in and out of the classroom.
The Shafter Kiwanis Club honors students every month to celebrate and honor those students who have exhibited the character traits outlined in the program's mission statement. Each month there is a different trait that students are recognized for.
Those traits that the Kiwanis and the school's teachers are looking for include Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive and Capable.
