Ongoing

Bengals tryouts -- Bengals Football tryouts will be Week 2: March 18 and 19 at Westside Park (across from the skate park) from 5:30-7 p.m. Athletes must live in the Wasco School District and turn 7 years old/cannot turn 15 years old on or before Nov. 15, 2021. Athletes must attend at least two tryout dates to be considered for selection. Athletes should come dressed in sports attire and bring a water bottle. Cleats preferred, but not mandatory. Only participating athletes are allowed inside training areas.

Utility bills — The City of Wasco reminds residents that the city’s official website is the only authorized avenue to pay your utility bill online.

Covid-19 testing — There will be free covid-19 testing Wednesdays and Sundays at the Wasco Library, 1102 7th St., Wasco. If you have insurance, they will be billed. Reopened — Shafter City Hall has reopened to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hours for the finance department are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 661-746-5000.

Food2Door — The program delivers 70 pounds of food once a month to seniors 65 and older, sponsored by the City of Shafter CAPK and Kern County. Call 661- 498-7831 ext. 1310 to find out if you’re eligible for the program.

Monday

Shafter High Pride Pantry — Help stock the pantry on Monday, March 22 from 3-6 p.m. in the Shafter High front office parking lot. You can contribute to the drive with drop-off donations of personal hygiene products, new clothing items, household cleaning supplies and non-perishable food items.

Tuesday

Senior lunch program — The senior sack program gives out lunches to seniors every first and third Tuesday of the month at 11 a.m., sponsored by the Golden Gleaners. Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St., Wasco.

Thursday

Wasco Recreation & Park Board — Meetings are on every 3rd Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Hall at Barker Park, Wasco.

Truth ministries — Truth Ministries: A Faith Based 12-Step Program providing fellowship recovery will be held on Thursday nights from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church, 400 Kern St. The program begins on Feb. 25. Call 661-746-4969 for more information.

Friday

Food giveaway — The Impact Program is a weekly food giveaway provided to anyone in need, Fridays beginning at 7 a.m., first come, first serve. Griffith Avenue Baptist Church, 408 Griffith St., Wasco.

Saturday

Bulky waste drop off — The Kern County Public Works is helping to Keep Kern Beautiful with a bulky waste drop off event on Saturday, March 20 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Richland School District, 300 N. Valley St., Shafter. Drop off old furniture, home appliances, TVs, mattresses and water heaters. Not accepted include trash, green wasted, hazardous materials, construction or remodeling scraps.
