Serving the community since 1970
Jan. 19, 1970 -- Feb. 5, 2021
Jesus "Moose" Torres, 51, passed away on Feb. 5, 2021 at his home in Wasco.
Jesus was born on Jan. 19, 1970 in Nuevo Chupicuaro, Guanajuato, Mexico, to Nicolas and Maria Torres.
Jesus grew up in Shafter, where he attended Shafter High School, Class of '88. More recently, Jesus was continuing his education by attending Bakersfield College where he was set to graduate with honors and receive his associates degree in industrial technology. Moose worked for the Housing Authority of Kern County, where he was a beloved maintenance worker who brought joy to the lives of everyone he encountered.
Moose had many passions, but his greatest love was that which he held for his family. He was everyone's favorite uncle. Jesus would often be found surrounded by his many nieces and nephews whom he would celebrate as often as possible, especially his godson, Nikkolai, his "Baby Shark."
Jesus is survived by his two daughters, Jesenia and Izabela; his two sons, Dario and Jesus Jr.; his mother, Maria; his siblings, Nick Torres, Sonia Saldana, Rigo Torres and Wendy Alberto; and countless nieces, nephews and cousins. Jesus was set to be a grandfather later this year.
Jesus was reunited in eternal life with his father, Nicolas Torres Sr., and his brother Ivan Torres, whom we miss dearly every day.
A celebration of life was held at Basham and Lara Funeral Care in Shafter on Feb. 18. Mass was held at St. Therese Catholic Church in Shafter on Feb. 19, followed by a burial service at the Shafter Cemetery.
