Pastor's Corner: More blessed

In Acts 20:35, Paul says, “I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Many people would rather receive $1,000 than to give away that same amount. In a more practical scenario, many individuals would rather sell old possessions in a yard sale than to simply give them away. What does it mean, “…It is more blessed to give?”

An individual can read this scripture and conclude “If I give, I will receive blessings.” This very well may be true. However, here is another thought to consider. If an individual has $1,000 to give, they are already more blessed. In fact, if an individual has $10 to give, they are already more blessed than someone that does not possess $10.

If people have old possessions that others really need, those people are already more blessed than the needy of those same possessions. Here is the point: I don’t want to give just to receive more blessings. I want to give because it is more blessed to be on the giving side than on the receiving side! But if God does bless me with greater, than let me be more blessed to be a greater blessing. “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
