Serving the community since 1970
When residents are hungry for a couple of donuts, many flock to Shafter Donut, which has been in the city for over two decades.
Owner Kim Ten is proud to call Shafter home. Manager Yinhkann Yen said that they love the people of Shafter and have so many regulars that make the trip to Shafter Donuts a "daily ritual."
With their wide selection of donuts, from glazed and cake donuts to jelly filled donuts, maple bars and twists, the shop is not just a place for a donut. Their breakfast sandwiches are growing in popularity, with the business offering several varieties, including ham and cheese croissants, with an array of croissants that contain sausage, bacon, egg and much more.
"Our hot food is getting popular, with a lot of people wanting something more than just a donut," said Yen.
The service is very personal, as they treat every customer as family, with the list of regulars growing daily.
"I have been coming here for over 10 years," said Ted Matthews, who gets his maple bar with bacon and a coffee every morning. "I love this place and you can't ask for a more friendly place."
Yen said that they begin preparing for the next day at around 11 p.m. They open at 4 a.m. and are the first stop for many workers as they load up on the treats as they start their workday.
They also serve a variety of sandwiches for lunch including tuna, ham and cheese, roast beef and turkey. They serve smoothies as well.
The pandemic has not kept the shop from thriving.
"We love the city of Shafter, and the people are very special," said Yen. "We love this community and are proud to serve them."
