Library offering in-person appointments, curbside services

The Kern County Wasco branch library is making the most out of its limited hours, librarian Ethan Picman said.

The library is currently open Monday and Tuesdays from noon to 6 p.m.

“It’s important we do what we can to stay open to the public,” Picman said. “Access to the internet or the ability to print or fax can really affect someone’s livelihood.”

Appointments are made at the top of each hour, for example noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. The half-hour slots in between are used for sanitizing the library, Picman said.

The half-hour slots have been working well, Picman said, and most library business such as browsing, computer access, printing, copying, faxing, account services or reference services can be done in that time.

Along with the appointments, the library is offering curbside pickup for holds.

“The KCL- Wasco Library Facebook is updated weekly with new Storytime readings, virtual craft time, updates and information,” Picman said. “As long as you have a library card you can still check out up to 30 items at a time.”

The library is still a free covid-19 testing site as well; Wednesday to Sunday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m., by appointment. You can call 888-634-1123 to make an appointment or visit the LHIcare website.
