200 new virus cases this past week in Shafter

The city had 200 new cases of covid-19 in the last week, according to reports. That brings total number of cases since the pandemic began to 3,085 with about 1,135 presumed as recovered.

The campaign to get residents to wear masks has seen higher participation, enabling residents to go shopping or get gas with their masks on.

The school district has begun opening classrooms again for in-person learning, ordering Richland School District employees back to work.

A petition has been circulated stating that a number of teachers do not want to return to school. The Richland School Board approved in-person learning, although it wasn’t a unanimous decision.

Churches have gone back to in-person services, with the majority of the churches following social distancing guidelines and wearing a mask.

Shafter High School is following guidelines put forth by the Kern High School District, continuing distance learning.
