Purple today, red next week?

Number of positive tests declines

Even though Kern County remains in the purple tier, the fourth-highest risk group, of the governor’s four-tier program, many in the county are hoping that with the decline in positive tests during the current week Kern will be moved to the red tier, the third-highest, by Tuesday. Many were even hoping the county would be in the red tier this week.

A report by the Kern County Public Health Department emphasized that the wearing of masks and social distancing are the most-important factors in fending off the coronavirus.

As of Sept. 22, Wasco had a total of 1,486 people who tested positive, 553 who recovered, 145 presumed recovered and a population of 27,552. Wasco State Prison is included in that number.

As of Wednesday, Wasco had 1,310 testing positive with 409 recovered and 145 presumed recovered with the population still at 27,552.

Shafter in September had 1,096 testing positive with 442 recovered and 137 presumed recovered and a population of 20,710.

On Monday, Oct. 5, Wasco had 1,310 testing positive with 409 recovered and 130 presumed recovered with the population still at 27,552.

Shafter’s numbers showed 1,243 total number of cases (testing positive), 618 recovered and 149 presumed recovered and a population of 20,710.

In the Wasco business community, Status Beliz Image Salon and Spa on 7th Street announced that it is offering full service. The salon is open for hair and nails.
