Pastor's Corner: The best is yet to come

How many of you have somebody in your life that you can say you look up to? It may be a parent, an athlete, actor, teacher, world leader or anybody else in or around your life. Sometimes we try to pattern our lives after our heroes.

Let me start by saying this. I’m not against anyone making a ton of money for doing something they love to do. If owners of pro sports teams are willing to pay tens of millions of dollars to athletes to play for their team, God bless them. I would take the money just like they are doing. If someone can make money singing or acting, I wish them the best of luck to get all they can.

But when it comes to who influences my life, I’m not sure I want to always follow the advice of somebody who did not finish school but can throw, hit or kick a ball, sing a song, or act like someone else in a movie, etc.

We fall in love with the person we see on social media, on the radio, on TV or in the movies. But who are they really? Are they really somebody we need to be following and taking their advice?

We are all human. We fail. We make mistakes. We really need to be careful who we allow to pour into our lives.

Matthew 7:15

Be careful of false prophets. They come to you looking gentle like sheep, but they are really dangerous like wolves.

What is it we need in our lives? We need a hero. We need somebody who can assist us in our daily lives to reach the ultimate goal of heaven.

John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me.

Jesus puts the burdens of the world on His shoulders."

1 Peter 5:7

Give all your worries to him, because he cares about you.

He will take the worries of this world from you, if you let Him. Jesus is our hero. Jesus is the hero we need in our lives today. If we will make Jesus the hero things like racism, violence, murder, child abuse, rape and so on would disappear. But Jesus has to be the hero for that to happen. He can’t just be the hero on Sunday but not Monday through Saturday. He can’t just be the hero of your house but not of your bank account. He has to be the hero in your entire life.

When Jesus becomes the hero, you can reach out and be a hero too. There are people we all come into contact with every single day that need the life changing experience of knowing Jesus. We can be the hero that makes the introduction.

It’s not hard. You don’t have to be a Bible scholar. You don’t need to have every verse in the Bible memorized. Be yourself. Tell your story of how God is your hero. Then invite them to church.

We need some heroes. Who is willing to step up and be a hero in your family, community and neighborhood today? Let’s be heroes for the kingdom of heaven today.
