Focus on Local Business: Scruffy to Fluffy puts pet service on the road

Scruffy to Fluffy Pet Spa has been open for seven years, and their mobile grooming bus has been operating about two years.

A recent story about Leticia Rivera shared about the many face masks she recently sewed for local hospitals and doctor's offices. Her husband, Chris Rivera, is a former Wasco High graduate and tries to make sure his hometown is part of whatever business his family is involved in.

Leticia Rivera is not only the owner, but she is also the manager and principal groomer; her husband helps by washing the animals when needed.

"We have six experienced groomers working in the shop, which is located at 10530 Rosedale Highway, Bakersfield," Chris said. "We usually service Wasco and Shafter area twice a month."

The mobile van provides full-service grooming.

Chris Rivera said that many prefer a mobile pet service because of the convenience of them bringing their service to the customer instead of the customer having to bring their pet to the service. "Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and state guidelines, no one can come inside the van or the shop," Chris said. "We currently use drop-off and pick-up service from the customer's curb."

"We reopened both the shop and the mobile van April 24," Chris said.

"Scruffy to Fluffy has been extremely busy since we reopened," he said. "Both the shop and mobile are booked out for weeks."

The Riveras have plans for expanding the business.

"We are planning on purchasing a second mobile bus to help with the demand," Chris said. "The mobile bus idea came when customers from outlying areas requested our service. Our philosophy is we treat every pet like family."
