Irene M. Vono was born in Webster City, Iowa, on June 15, 1920, to Aurelio Morandi and Seconda Semprini and was the oldest of five children. Irene was married to Charles J. Vono for 39 years and together they raised their children, Cynthia, Nancy and Carl. Irene was a legal secretary for attorney Gordon A. Drescher for over 40 years. She retired in 1998 at the age of 78. She was wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Irene graduated from high school in Lehigh, Iowa, in 1937, and from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1941. She moved with her husband to Wasco in 1952.
Irene loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed painting and won a sweepstakes ribbon for her scratchboard peacocks. She also enjoyed quilting, knitting and crocheting, and belonged to the "Happy Hookers." She enjoyed fellowship at the Wasco Senior Center.
Irene was a member of Alpha Iota sorority and St. John's Women's Society. She attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Wasco.
Irene is survived by her children, Cynthia Parks (Jim), Nancy Ayers and Carl Vono (Linda); grandchildren Carrie Mosley, Jason Parks, Christopher Parks, Brandon Parks, Eric Vono, Nicholas Ayers and Sean Ayers; and great-grandchildren Garrett Mosley, Andrew Mosley and Sara Mosley; and brother Michael Morandi.
Services were held at St. John's Catholic Church on Friday, Jan. 3. The family would like to thank Hoffman Hospice for their compassion and care during this difficult time.
