Diva Hair Salon a friendly, busy shop

Diva Hair Salon, 935 7th Street, is one of the very few salons open on Mondays.

Owner Juana Quintanilla has owned the salon since 2015 and after working for many years in the business, she had the desire to be her own boss.

Two stylists who work in the shop rent their own stations, a routine business arrangement in the industry.

While observing the customer flow at the shop, it was clear Quintanilla knew what she was doing by being open on Mondays, as customers continuously arrived every few minutes.

The shop is small in size, but open space was in mind while decorating the inside of the shop. It feels uncluttered with plenty of room to walk around.

There are three stations for the three stylists who work there: Quintanilla, Luz Santana and Alyadin Figurora.

As customers entered the salon, many were welcomed by first name. Moms were waiting patiently for their well-behaved children's appointments.

Julissa Falcon was having her long dark brown hair colored purple and blue -- a popular trend.

Quintanilla said that she enjoys coloring hair the most.

According to Quintanilla, the most-popular hair color technique is Balayage, which allows the stylist to blend in lighter colors with a dark base color – a variation of the ombre look. -- a blended coloring from dark crown to lighter ends.

"I love cutting boys' hair," Santana said. "Because it's easy to do."

The salon is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Appointments can be made by calling 661-758-5828.
