It was rivalry week for Wasco as they travelled to Shafter for their 93rd rivalry matchup. Both teams came into the game with a lot of fury and a lot of pride, but Wasco left on the wrong end of a close game, 28-21.
The Tigers were the first to receive, and it was not long before Christian Alvarez burst up the middle for an 8-yard touchdown, making the score 7-0. But Shafter answered right back as they drove down the field and evened the score.
The Tigers regained the lead with a 19-yard strike from quarterback Jacob Villenueva to Andre Cordova, who reached past the pylon for another Tigers touchdown, making it 14-7. But once again the Generals had an answer of their own and tied the game up at 14.
On the next drive for the Tigers, things went south, as the Tigers fumbled the ball on 4th down and Shafter took over on downs. Shafter capitalized on the mistake and took the lead, 21-14.
The Generals took the second-half kickoff, and threw a huge bomb down the field to increase their lead to 14 points.
Both teams then traded the ball back and forth, until there the interception by Andre Cordova for the Tiger defense.
Wasco then drove down the field, and Christian Alvarez got his second touchdown of the night in the most clutch form late in the 4th quarter, making it 28-21. Wasco lined up for the onside kick to give themselves a chance to win the game, but Shafter recovered and ran out the clock.
In the preliminary matches, the junior varsity finished their undefeated season, and the Freshman fell to Shafter. The JV team who went undefeated and outscored their opponents 449 to 59 throughout the season.
The loss ends the season for the Tigers, who finished in fourth in the South Sequoia League with a 3-3 record, 5-5 overall.
