On Tuesday, July 2, at approximately 10:39 p. m., the Kern County Fire Department Emergency Communications Center received reports of a fire at a large commercial/processing building, owned and operated by Wonderful Company, in Lost Hills.
While responding, fire crews could see a large column of smoke from a distance and requested additional support, upon arrival firefighters found a 15,000-square-feet building with large amounts of pressurized smoke exhausting from it.
It was at this time that a "third alarm" was dispatched for additional equipment and personnel. Firefighters worked to quickly find the location of the fire within the building and contain it to a large commercial almond roaster.
Wonderful Company employees were able to quickly and safely evacuate the affected areas by following their preplanned-and practiced-evacuation training. There were no injuries to Wonderful Company employees or firefighters reported.
