Hong Kong Restaurant has a warm, inviting atmosphere and the orderliness of the seating creates a spacious feeling.
The Wasco Rotary Club uses the Hong Kong Restaurant to cater its lunch menu for specific meetings. "The food is excellent," said Superintendent Kelly Richers.
The restaurant is located at 912 Seventh St. and they can be reached at 661-758-3338 for take-out orders. It's owned by Jian Zuo Huang and his wife, Juan Zhu Huang. They have owned the restaurant for approximately 3 1/2 years.
The family lived in Visalia, where the father was a cook in a Chinese restaurant. "We moved to Wasco about three and one-half years ago," said son Yi Huang.
The restaurant offers a large variety of Chinese food. Start with one of the many appetizers, such as combination appetizer for $8.95 or Chinese chicken salad for $6.95, pot stickers for $6.95, egg rolls for $5.50 or paper-wrapped chicken for $6.95. The appetizer selection is plentiful and reasonably priced.
They also serve noodles and soups, such as a dinner soup for $2, Seafood Soup for $ $6.95, Hot & Sour Soup for $6.95 and an assortment of other soups depending upon your palate.
There are pork, chicken, seafood and beef menus for diners who desire a large selection of choices. "The most-popular items on our menu are Orange Chicken, Beef Broccoli, Won Ton Soup, and my personal favorite is Honey Walnut Shrimp." said Yi Huang. "The food isn't Mandarin. It's Americanized Chinese food." Huang stated that in order to get authentic Mandarin food, you have to go to Los Angeles.
The restaurant can seat up to 90 people at one time.
