A county deputy shot an armed suspect allegedly running from a car chase near Palm Avenue and Gromer Avenue Sunday night, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect, described as a 21-year-old male, was treated at a hospital. His identity and condition was not reported. The Generals pulled one more victory out in their incredible playoff run by beating Caruthers, 41-35, on Friday night. Planet Dance Studio will host its annual December recital, "'Sleigh Ride," on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Shafter High School auditorium. There will be 65 dancers ranging in age from 4 to 17 performing 19 dance routines made up of tap, ballet, jazz and hip-hop genres. The Minter Field Air Museum will be getting a special visitor on Saturday morning, and they are preparing for the VIP. Santa Claus will be landing at Minter Field in an airplane, giving his reindeer a rest, as they prepare for the long trek on New Year's Eve. The Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church held their annual Takedown Tournament recently, drawing 160 competitors, the largest field in the tournament's history. Pastor Pat Coyle, along with a team of volunteers, put on the tournament, the season-opening event for most of the wrestlers. The tournament is affiliated with the Kern County Youth Wrestling Association, helping it draw wrestlers from all over the county and the Central Valley. Charles Loyd Guyton was the son of William Archie and Beatrice Flanagan Guyton. Due to his mother’s untimely death when he was 28 days old, he was raised by his maternal grandparents, James Alexander and Nettie Flanagan, in Queen City, Texas, on a small farm. Guyton graduated from Queen City High School in 1952. His paternal grandparents were Henry Grady Guyton and Freda A. Harden. Louise Spears Patterson was born in Hervey, Ark., on June 21, 1929, to parents Hugh and Armittee Spears. Her early life was spent living on the family farm along with her 12 siblings.
