The 2023 Wasco Rose Festival brought thousands of people out to celebrate the "You've Got a Friend in Wasco" event that included many activities for a fun-filled day for the community. It started with the Reach for the Sky Color Blast Fun Run hosted by the Wasco Recreation and Parks District. There is a new artist with work on display at the Shafter Library. Iva Cross Fendrick has been creating art for decades and has also lent her expertise to students at various studios. The Wasco Tigers football team made their way up the mountain to take on the Warriors of Tehachapi on Friday night. The Tigers came up short, though, dropping the contest 25-6. The game saw the Tigers use their powerful running game against the Warriors, but Tehachapi were able to stop them for the majority of the game. Emily came into the Wasco Animal Shelter as a stray. She is approximately a 3-5-year-old female American bulldog. She is great with staff and other dogs. Gene Oliver was born June 14, 1955, in Wasco, to parents Jack and Nelda. He passed away peacefully on Sept. 16, 2023, after bravely battling many health issues. From childhood and throughout his life, Gene enjoyed playing sports, hunting, fishing and truly living life with family and friends.
