A run/walk event has been added to the slate of events scheduled for the annual Shafter/Wasco Rivalry Week this year. License plate readers recently installed in Shafter led to the arrest, prosecution and conviction of a Shafter man after the theft of a car and the high-speed chase that followed. The Shafter City Council approved a $200,000 budget amendment to help fund the city's capital improvement project for the city's core. The council approved a contract between the city and Westrock LLC to complete the Street Improvement Project. The project includes pavement resurfacing, striping, repairs, sidewalks and curbs.
